After a much needed sleep I left Wye River just before 9:00. The heat had arrived early and it was 33 degs.
After yesterday I was ready for traffic but from Wye to Apollo Bay only one car got in the way.
After filling up with fuel and a drink I headed south. The heat increased as the road meandered along the coast. A quick detour into the lighthouse at Cape Otway revealed lots of koalas, lots of stopped Britz vans looking at said koalas, and a very expensive tourist trap.
I moved on. My plan was to pick up the old ocean roads gravel section as recommended by Billy. But after not finding any signs and the steadily climbing temperature I bailed into Port Campbell.
Ant was already here and we set up camp and waited for the others to arrive. They were only an hour or so later. We spent the afternoon having a beer and trying to avoid the heat.
A quick trip to the beach cooed us off. The sea temp here is very chilly!
Few beers and dinner have seen us back at camp.
A short ride to Lorne tomorrow with a cool change should bring happier conditions.
