Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

Five nights in Alice Springs has left us nice and relaxed, reorganised and with a new addition for Hillary.

A roof top tent.

After much debate and decision making, we settled on an ARB Simpson 3. The friendly folk at the local ARB dealer, Top Gear 4WD, sorted us out with our new accommodation.

Our first attempt at erection was without instructions and seemed to go reasonably well, with us finding two straps we were unsure about. A quick phone call to Matt at the ARB dealer informed us our suggestions were in fact wrong and they were to assist with descending the ladder. Our ideas were more interesting than that!

Our new home has been named Camp 4, due to its lofty perch and the obvious Hillary reference.  The plan is to be up out of the dust and dirt and open up our camp site options. A lot of the free camps we have been to have not been level enough or unsuitable for ground based tents, so here's hoping our high altitude apartment comes through.

With the loan of a drill from the lads camped next door to us, Bryce was able to fix the rear bar and Hillary is looking a treat again. The rear tyre carrier has sheared off a couple of mounting bolts. We replaced them with some high tensile ones.  We will need to keep our eye on the bolts as there is a chance they may break again.

The black dog institute charity ride concluded in Alice Springs over the weekend so there were plenty of bikes in town to keep Bryce entertained. Of note were a 650GS, a massive Harley Bagger and a bran new K1600.

A phone call late on Sunday night from Ringo and Ronny had them arriving into town a day early after a massive 900km driving day down the Tanami Track. It was great to see them again and plan our Red Centre Adventure.
